The Parallels Workstation window displays an opened Virtual Machine and a set of visual tools for managing machine behavior. When a Virtual Machine is not started its property page is only seen. Each running Virtual Machine has its own console that acts as a real computer monitor.
Controls available in both property page and console view are the following:
The toolbar is located to the right of the Parallels Workstation window by default. However, it can be attached to any of the four window borders. Just drag it from a current position to another border and drop when toolbar frame changes its shape. Parallels Workstation will keep this toolbar position next time you launch the system.
Note that if you drop the toolbar when it is not docked to the window border, this position will not be restored on the next Parallels Workstation session.
Toolbar buttons are active mainly when Virtual Machine is turned on. They are discussed in the Starting Virtual Machine, Shutting Down and Resetting Virtual Machine, Pausing Virtual Machine, Suspending Virtual Machine, Switching Virtual Machine to Fullscreen Mode, and Console View topics. When a guest OS is not started, only the Power on button is active letting you to start the machine.
If you click the Power On or Pause button it becomes visibly pressed reflecting the current Virtual Machine state. On the picture above the Power On button is pressed which means the guest OS is launched and operating. The Console View button is visibly pressed when you look at the console of the running guest OS. If you look at the property page of the running Virtual Machine, this button is on the same level with the toolbar.
You can simplify the Parallels Workstation window by hiding some of its components. If you don't need the toolbar or the status bar, click Toolbar or Status Bar in the View menu. You can make them visible at any time by the same action. Visible window elements are marked with checkmarks.
Parallels Workstation allows you to modify text size on the property page and make screenshots of the console while Virtual Machine is active.
