HTML E-Mail Address Encrypter - HELP


1. Introduction :

  Include your e-mail address in a webpage and watch, the amount of junk-email (spam) you receive, start to rocket. Lottery offers, pornographic ads, website visit invitations, money making offers, purchase and auctions, whatever spam you can think of, would be coming there, within around 3 days of creating a new webpage. That's because a number of companies and groups run search-engine-like software (Robots) to mine webpages for valid e-mail addresses. They, then, sell these valid e-mail addresses to spam marketers. One of my friends was, once, offered $25 for every 1000 valid e-mail addresses.

  The mining software can mine upto several levels of webpages and is very smart. It looks at the underlying HTML code, so it grabs an actual e-mail address, e.g., sudesh221@rediffmail.com, instead of description text which appears in status-bar and in webpage, e.g., e-mail sudesh.   What is the solution ? The solution is to use various cloaking techniques to hide your e-mail address from the eyes of spammers. The simplest of them being, using decimal numeral reference codes for each character in your e-mail address. This is like using "copy" between "&" and ";" to show © symbol. Decimal numeral references start from number 0 and go to many thousands. However, a normal e-mail address uses around 100 different characters. It's very difficult to see the table and then encode an e-mail address, character by character. Here is where, HTML E-Mail Address Encrypter comes.




2. Description :

   HTML E-Mail Address Encrypter is a small utilty to convert your e-mail address character by chracter into it's decimal numeral reference encrypted form. You can then put this encrypted e-mail address in your HTML code, and be safe (I cannot take responsibility, of your being wholly safe) from the spammers. Here is a snapshot,

3. Getting Started :

  Ha! It's not even child's play.

  1. Enter your e-mail address.
  2. Press Encrypt button.
  3. Double click in the encrypted e-mail address area to select it.
  4. Press Ctrl-C to copy.
  5. Paste in your HTML code at suitable places.

  An Example :
  Suppose you want to encrypt sk@lappu.net

Insert this e-mail address in the HTML E-Mail Adress Encrypter and press Encrypt.

Everything is as before, but the spam-baby's software fails to identify the e-mail address in your HTML document. Just, wherever you want to use your e-mail address in your HTML document, use it in encrypted form.
