UPDATING THE SYSTEM INVENTORY

“Stuff” happens. Files get added, deleted or moved. The actual system inventory changes. Your inventory database gets old and out-of-date. No problem, the solution is a single mouse click away.

From the System Inventory view in the Data Viewer, just click the “Update” button and Harbor will immediately re-scan your system, update your inventory, and display the new results on the Viewer.  The date and time that the newly updated inventory was created will now appear in the Description field of the view.

The “Update button” is available whenever there is no file currently playing in the Launcher.

NOTE:
Under the default settings for Harbor – and assuming there have been no drastic addition to your system’s drive configuration – updating the system inventory will take pretty much exactly as long as the initial scan took when launching Harbor for the first time, usually around ten to fifteen seconds.
On systems with large inventories where the “Embedded Info” search preference has been checked in the Tools/Preferences settings, however, updating system inventories can sometimes take a few minutes to complete.  See “The ‘Embedded Info’ Option and the System Inventory" and ”Using the Harbor Search Engine” for more information on this option.
