USING THE HARBOR SEARCH ENGINE

Harbor’s search features provide a powerful and easy set of tools for quickly finding, examining or playing back any audio file located anywhere on your system or network.

These search capabilities utilize a “fuzzy” search engine that will perform key word and key phrase searches on any combination of your system inventory database, your custom user database, audio file attributes, and chunk header information contained within the audio files.

Just type in the words or phrases you wish to search for, and within seconds Harbor displays a resulting Inventory Detail listing of any and all files matching your search request to any degree, with the best matches listed first.

“Fuzzy" searches

The Harbor search engine performs “fuzzy” searches on your data. This means that not only are those files that have exact (or verbatim) matches to your search words or phrases are displayed, but those that closely resemble your search terms are displayed as well. Such matches are called “fuzzy” matches. Harbor’s “fuzziness” comes in two forms:

The first form of fuzziness deals with case sensitivity; Harbor performs case-insensitive searches. This means that capitalization of text is ignored when searching for matches.  For example, when searching for the keyword “Fred”, Harbor will find “Fred”, “fred”, “FRED”, and “fReD” to match the keyword.

The second form of fuzziness deals with partial text matching. If the search word or phrase is just part of longer text in the searched data, Harbor will find it and count it as a match. For example, the same search for “Fred” will also find occurrences of “Freddie”, “Alfred” and “Fredrick’s of Hollywood”.
