SETTING THE SEARCH ENGINE OPTIONS

Harbor lets you choose how extensive the range of your search engine is; e.g. whether you are searching just your user database, just looking for filenames, searching the entire Harbor data spectrum, etc. There are three basic options for setting this search range, each of with can be individually selected or de-selected at any time from Harbor’s Tools/Preferences menu (see Fig. 21):

File Attributes
Analyzes and searches standard “file attributes” data for all of the audio files themselves. The attributes that are analyzed and searched include each file’s full path and name, the file’s size (in bytes), and the date and time each file was created or last modified.

User DB
Searches the entire custom user database. The data fields in this database that are searched are “Caption”, “Subject”, “Project”, “Keywords” and “Players”.

Embedded Info
Searches all chunk header information encoded (“embedded”) within each of the audio files themselves. This information includes any or all of the following (depending on the actual contents of the audio file): “Artist”, “Album”, “Genre”, “Year”, “File Type”, “Name”, “Format”, “Created”, “Engineer”, “Copyright”, “Length”, “Comment”, “Channels” and “Encoding”.

 To choose or change which search options you want, at any time just click the “Tools/Preferences” button at the bottom of the Launcher window.  This will display the Tools/Preferences settings menu.  The search options settings are located on the right, in the box labeled “DB Search Options”.

To engage or disengage any of the available options, click on the checkbox or name for that option. When the checkbox is checked, that search option is engaged.

The default setting for Harbor when you install it is to have the “File Attributes” and “User DB” options enabled. These settings are more than sufficient for many users. Fig. 21 shows what this default configuration in the Tools/Preferences menu looks like.

The "Embedded Info" option is defaulted to a disabled state. This option is disabled at the default setting.  The user can enable this option at any time to increase the depth of their searches to a whole new level.  The downside (and the reason this is defaulted to disabled), is that it can greatly reduce the speed in which updates to the system inventory are completed.
