PERFORMING SEARCHES 

To initiate a search for audio files using the Harbor search tool, click on the “Search” button that is located near the bottom right of the Data Viewer. It does not matter what view is currently displayed in the Viewer when your do this.

The Viewer will display the Search Inventory screen, where you type in the key words, phrases or other alphanumeric text you wish to search your files and databases for.

The Description field at the top indicates which search options are currently engaged.

The Data Display of the Search screen contains a single editable field called “Search Text”. This is where you enter the words or phrases for which you want to search. 

Separate multiple search terms with commas. For example, if you wanted to find all MP3 files created in 1999 that refer to blue eyes, you might type in “mp3,blue eyes,1999” (without the quotes).

The Search screen offers only two buttons to click: the “Search” button and a “Cancel” button (the “Cancel” button temporarily residing where the “Update” button would normally appear.)

Once you have typed in your search text, click again on the “Search” button to execute the search. When the search has completed (less than a second to no more than a couple of seconds, depending on the immensity of your databases), The Data Viewer will display an Inventory Detail view of your search results.

The “Cancel” button simply exits the Search screen and returns the previously displayed view.

Search results display
Results from all searches are displayed in a custom Inventory Detail view. Any and all files in your inventory that have at least one field in the range of search options that fuzzily matches at least one of the works or phrases you entered as search text (such matches are called “hits”) will be listed in the display.

The Description field at the top of the resulting view will list the search words/phrases that generated the listing.

Inventory Detail views generated as a result of searches differ from Inventory Details generated by standard clicks from of a System Inventory view in that they have an extra “Hits” column on the right side of the data display. 

This “Hits” column displays the number of search hits detected by the search engine for each file listed. The higher the number of "hits", the stronger the match.

All other columns (“DB”, “Drive” and “File”) are identical to a standard Inventory Detail View. 

Inventory Detail views generated as search engine results are sorted by strength of match; the files that match the search criteria the best will be listed first, with the quality of match getting poorer as you move down the list.

As with the standard Inventory Detail view, left clicking anywhere on one of the listing rows will generate and display a File Detail view for that clicked file, while right-clicking will display the File Detail and simultaneously play the file.
