THE FILE DETAIL VIEW

The File Detail view of Harbor's Data Viewer displays a myriad of details about any single audio file. These details are culled from the inventory database, your custom user database, the Launch Groups tool and QuickLauncher configurations, and chunk header information contained within the audio file itself.

File Detail views are generated whenever you click anywhere on a file listing in an Inventory Detail view.

A File Detail view generated from a left-click in the Inventory Detail view also makes visible the Data Viewer’s “Play” button. A File Detail view generated from a right-click will be accompanied by an automatic audio playback of the displayed file, causing the "Play" button to be activated as a red "Stop" button (since the file is already playing.)

If you have configured Harbor to do so, an audio file displayed in a File Detail view will automatically be loaded into your selected waveform editor if you click the Launcher window’s “Waveform Editor” button while the File Detail is displayed.

The Description field at the top of the File Detail view indicates the full path and name of the audio file for which the information is displayed. 

This field is “dragable”; i.e. you can drag the information from this field into the Launch Groups tool and the QuickLauncher, or into other applications that can accept filenames as drag and drop input (see the section called “Dragging and Dropping Files from the File Detail” for more information on this.) 

This data view comes up as a read-only display. However, the custom user database data can be edited from this screen by clicking on the “Update” button while this view is displayed (see “The ‘Update’ Button, below.)

Any data fields for which there is no available information will simply be left blank.

The File Detail data is separates into three groups, User database data, Launch Groups/QuickLauncher data and Embedded chunk info and file data:

User Database Data
The first group of five data fields display the data stored (if any) for this audio file in your custom user database.  These fields are called “Caption”, “Subject”, “Project”, “Keywords” and “Players”.  

Data is entered into and edited in these fields by clicking on the “Update” button from this File Detail display (see “The ‘Update’ Button, below.)

Launch Groups/QuickLauncher data
This single field called “Launch Groups” in the middle of the File Detail view identifies any QuickLaunch presets or Launch Groups that contain the displayed audio file.

QuickLaunch presets are identified by their preset number enclosed in brackets. For example, if the displayed file is programmed into preset # 12, you will see “ [12] “ displayed in this field.

Launch groups are identified by the full group path to the file in the Launch Groups tool’s display. For example, if the displayed file was located in a launch group called “Mr Zippy”, which in turn was located within parent launch group called “DJs”, the display would show “ \DJs\Mr Zippy “.

Commas will separate multiple entries in this “Launch Groups” field – such as when a file exists in two different launch groups and a QuickLaunch preset.

This is a read-only field in that it is not user clickable or editable. However, its display will automatically and instantly update whenever relevant changes are made to the QuickLauncher or Launch Groups tool configurations.

Embedded Chunk info and File Attribute data
The bottom group of fourteen data fields in the File Detail view consists of all the information that Harbor can cull from an automatic analysis of the contents of the audio file itself. As such, these are all read-only fields.

These fields are “Artist”, “Album”, “Genre”, “Year”, “File Type”, “Name”, “Format”, “Created”, “Engineer”, “Copyright”, “Length”, “Comment”, “Channels” and “Encoding”.

NOTE:  Not all embedded chunk data types are contained in all of the supported audio file formats. Also, not all available data types necessarily contain information in any given audio file, depending upon the wishes or capabilities of the creator of the audio file. Therefore, not all of these fields will necessarily contain information when the details of any given file are viewed. Any unavailable or blank fields will simply remain blank when displayed.

The "Update" button
Clicking the “Update” button while in the File Detail view will put you into User database edit mode. At that point the five user data fields grouped at the top of the File Detail display become editable fields. This is how you maintain your custom user database for audio files.
