THE SYSTEM INVENTORY VIEW

The System Inventory view is the “home” or default view displayed in the Data Viewer when you startup the Harbor Audio Manager. You can return to this view from other views at any time by clicking on the “Inventory” button.

This view displays a summary count of all audio files currently in your inventory. This information is displayed in a “spreadsheet-style” grid.  The columns break your inventory totals out by file type and the rows detail the break out for each drive currently visible on your system or network. 

The Description field at the top indicates the date and time that the inventory database of your audio files was last updated.

If there are too many drives on your system to fit in the Data Viewer at once, the grid will display a scroll bar on its right side allowing you to scroll through the entire display.

This grid – as well as the grids in most of the other views – is interactive. That means you can click on the individual cells of the grid to get a more detailed, or “magnified” view of that cell’s data.

Pass your mouse pointer over any grid display in the Data Viewer fields to find which ones are “clickable”. If the pointer changes from its default style to a hand with a pointed finger, good things will usually happen if you click on it.

Here is a description of what each column of the grid displays, along with what will happen when you click on one of its cells:

Drive column
The first (untitled) column lists all currently visible drives on your system or network, along with an icon representing the drive type – floppy drive, hard drive/removable drive, CD-ROM, RAM drive or network drive.

The arrow in the last row indicates that is the “Totals” row, which indicates the total count for files of each type for all drives.

Clicking on any of the drive letters or icons will display a Drive Detail view for that drive.

"Total" column
This column gives a total count of audio files of all types on each drive.

The bottom row gives the total of all files on all drives; i.e. the total number of audio files in your inventory.

Clicking on any of the drive rows in this column will display an Inventory Detail view listing all the files located on that particular drive. Clicking on the bottom “Totals” row in this column will display an Inventory Detail view listing all files in your inventory.

A count of “0” (zero) in any cell means that there are no files in inventory located on that drive; clicking on a zero will cause Harbor to beep at you in consternation.

"Wav", "MP3", "MIDI", "Au", "Aiff" and "Snd" columns
These middle six columns break out the total counts for each drive of each of the major audio file types supported by Harbor.

The bottom row gives the totals of each file type for all drives.

Clicking on any of the drive rows in any of these columns will display an Inventory Detail view listing all the files of that particular type located on that drive.  Clicking on the bottom “Totals” row in any of these columns will display an “Inventory Detail” view listing all files of that file type in your inventory.

As with the “Total” column to the left, clicking on any cell with a count of “0” (zero) in any of these columns will cause Harbor to beep and stick its tongue out at you.

"Lists" column
This column gives you the totals of all “.m3u” playlist files found in inventory for each drive, with the bottom row listing the total of all such playlist files in your inventory.

Clicking on any of the drive rows in this column will display an Inventory Detail view listing all the “.m3u” playlist located on that drive.  Clicking on the bottom “Totals” row will display an “Inventory Detail” view listing all such playlist files in your inventory.

Harbor still stubbornly beeps at you if you try clicking on a cell with a count of “0” (zero) in this column.

The "Update" button
Clicking on the “Update” button from the System Inventory view will cause Harbor to re-scan you entire system and visible network for audio files and build a fresh, up-to-date system inventory database for Harbor.
