Cerberus 1.5 user notes:

Cerberus is basically a caller ID logging program that can play an associated '.wav' file as well as displaying custon pictures upon someone calling so that you can 'hear' who it is versus having to go look at the caller id. When the program is first runs it brings up a Configuration menu.
Here you will first detect a communication port. You can then go to your phone book
and scroll through/edit the numbers of your favorite callers and the sound and picture
files to be associated with that number. Durring the programs first configuration, the help
window in the configuration menu will assist in guiding you through the setup process.
Next it will bring up the main screen, which is the caller ID screen. You can activate or
Deactivate the caller ID program by pressing the button in the left hand corner of
the screen. When activated or deactivated, the 'logging screen' located in the upper
right hand corner of the screen log's the date/time of its active status so that you can
see when you've turned it on or off. Deactivating the program becomes necessary when you
wish to go on the Internet or use another communications program which needs to use your
modem. If you have two modems and you're only using one for caller ID and one for the
Internet, it is not necessary to deactivate the program. When you wish to change comm ports
or edit your names/wav files, just go to the config menu. If you have changed your config
press 'save config', if you have edited the name/wav list press done, and you will be
brought back to the main screen. A popular idea is to make a .wav file from the messages
that are on your answering machine.

Registered versions of this software includes the ability to print, save the log, and an
increased number of sound/picture files that you wish to play/show.

[TECHNICAL PROBLEMS, Q&A]

q. When I run the program I get a message that says "This modem does not respond to V90 caller ID commands."
a. Your modem did not respond to caller ID commands either because either
your V.90 modem does not support caller ID strings (rare), you don't have a 'V90' modem,
or your modem just doesn't like the 'V90' command to turn on caller ID, consult your modem
documentation for details regarding 'caller ID' functions, if you do find the command
it can be manually entered in the 'cconfig.ini' file located in the directory that you
have unzipped Cerberus 1.0. use notepad to open it and put the command in place of
the second line from the top. The best tested working types of modems seem to be:
				U.S. Robotics 56K Voice PCI
					or
U.S. Robotics 56k External Voice modems

Note: Not all V.90 modems work with this software

q. When I press 'detect' in the configuration menu, no comm ports appear in the box
a. Make sure that you press the down button on the list box to display the comm ports.
If there still are no comm ports detected, either you have no modem or the program
cant see them, Win modems can sometimes cause this problem.

q. The program does not play the sound files that I associate to the phone numbers I input
a. First check the phone number, it must be in the format [8885551111]
area code first, prefix, and last four, all in a row.
Second make sure that the sound is turned on in your volume control,
Wave audio must not contain a check mark in the mute box.
Last make sure that the volume is turned up.

Special Questions:
q. Can I make a custom blank screen instead of this gloss black bitmap?
a. Yes, the program will display any bitmap named (blank.bmp) which is located
in its working directory when there are no calls.

q. What about a custom .wav file for calls that are not assigned.
a. Yes, the program plays (fail.wav) for calls that are not assigned.
You may replace either of these files with your own.
